This Spirit #31 Eisner
cover art is based on "The Last Hand," a story from
5/16/48 featuring a "sweet little granny lady, Mrs.
Morrison, [who] is in reality a homicidal maniac who stocks her
gingerbread house with torture devices." The Spirit is
trapped in one such device on the cover, struggling with a skeletal
figure with manacles and a luger, wearing an editor's visor.
Signed and dated ('87) by Eisner in the lower right corner. The
"Spirit" logo can be seen penciled lightly in the background
(the mechanical logo was dropped in separately in the design
process). Measures 11" wide x 14" high. Price:
$1,500. |
